With the wires crossed as shown in step 17, Sir Chops-O-Lot drove backwards (gears are all placed correctly). uncrossing the wire fixed this.
On step 1 the short pins kept popping off of the motor. I omitted them and instead attached the red Technic beam directly onto the studs of the grey 4×4 plate.

For the Sir Chops-o-lot I found that the axle holding the wheels on kept sliding, moving the gear out of place. To fix this problem I put a spacer in-between the gear and the opposing 1 by 10 brick. I also used spacers to keep the wheels on.
